Hello, I'm Neil Nunes with the BBC News.

The President of Mali Ibrahim Boubacar Keita has appeared on state television to announce his resignation. He said parliament would also be dissolved. In the broadcast, he said he did not want blood to be spills to keep him in power. His statement comes after Tuesday's army mutiny, during which both the President and his Prime Minister were arrested by soldiers and taken to a military camp. The UN Security Council is to meet on Wednesday to discuss the latest developments in Mali. Helene Conway-Mouret, the Vice President of the French Senate said Paris was deeply concerned. We're extremely concerned about the situation. We feel that the groups that we are fighting in North Mali may take advantage of the very chaotic situation in Bamako, which is the only place really where the state is still present. The rest of Mali is a kind of collapse really over the years.

The Democratic Party in the United States is preparing to hold the second evening of its virtual national convention ahead of November elections. Jill Biden, the wife of the Democrats presidential candidate Joe Biden, will deliver today's main speech. Michael Bornstein is a democratic strategist. We're gonna be reminded of American leadership and what true American leadership looks like in the world. We'll have former presidents speak, President Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter. There will be a lineup of progression here that hopefully will remind people the Democrats and democratic rule is much different than what we've seen with the Republicans, and especially under Donald Trump over the last several years. Democratic Party politicians in the United States have dismissed the decision by the US postal service to postpone controversial cost cutting measures until after November election. The speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, said the announcement did nothing to reverse the damage already done.

The son of the assassinated former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri killed in a car bomb attack 15 years ago, has expressed his frustration at the outcome of the trial of his alleged murderers. The special court in the Hague found one defendant, Salim Ayyash, guilty of playing a central role, but acquitted three others. They all belonged to the Hezbollah group. Mr. Hariri's son Saad said the group should face up to their crimes. Everybody's expectation was much higher than what came out. But I believe that the tribunal came out with the result that is satisfying. We accept it and we believe that there are still a lot of issues unknown.

This is the latest world news from the BBC.
